Letter from Dr. Tatman: Bullying Prevention & Awareness
Dear Families,
At Huron City Schools, the safety and well-being of our students is always our highest priority. As we begin a new school year, I want to take a moment to address an important topic: bullying prevention.
Bullying is more than just occasional disagreements or unkind words. It is intentional, repeated behavior that causes harm and creates an imbalance of power. It can take many forms, from verbal and physical aggression to spreading rumors, excluding others, or misusing technology to hurt or intimidate. Regardless of the form it takes, bullying has no place in our schools.
I want our families to know that when bullying concerns are brought forward, we take them seriously. Students, staff, and parents all have a role in helping us maintain schools where everyone feels safe, supported, and respected. Talking with your child about what bullying is—and encouraging them to reach out to a teacher, principal, or trusted adult if they see it happening—can make a tremendous difference.
You will continue to hear more from us this year about the proactive programs we have in place, including Sources of Strength, ROX, and Guys With Ties. These initiatives help students build resilience, develop healthy communication skills, and strengthen positive relationships with peers and trusted adults. Together, they reinforce the culture of respect and belonging we want for every student in Huron.
Our shared goal is to create learning environments where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. I am grateful for your partnership in supporting this effort, and I encourage you to reach out to your child’s school with any questions or concerns.
Thank you for entrusting us with your children—it is a responsibility we take very seriously.
Sincerely,
Dr. James J. Tatman
Superintendent, Huron City Schools
