SB 29 and COPPA Policy
To help enhance student learning, Huron City Schools uses a number of web-based tools and applications in the classroom. These platforms are operated by third-party companies—not the school itself—and may require some basic personal information to set up your child’s account, such as their name and school-issued email address.
Under a federal law called the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), these websites must notify parents and get permission before collecting personal information from children under age 13. You can learn more about COPPA by visiting: FTC COPPA FAQ.
To streamline this process, COPPA allows school districts to provide consent on behalf of parents, which helps us get students up and running on the tools they need without delay.
The third-party providers we use are required to keep your child’s information secure and private. Each company must also publish a privacy policy that outlines how student data is collected, used, and protected. A full list of the services we use, along with links to their privacy policies, is available below.
By completing and submitting the consent form below, you’re giving us permission to share limited information with the listed operators, such as your child’s name, student ID, school email, and username, so they can access these learning platforms.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students safe while giving them access to tools that enrich their education.
