  • Reporting an Absence

At Huron Little Tigers Preschool, consistent attendance supports student growth and classroom connection. However, we understand that illness and emergencies may occasionally require your child to stay home. When that happens, we ask that families notify the school as early as possible.

    How to Report an Absence:

Please call the Preschool Office at 419-433-1234 ext. 5505 by 9:00 a.m. on the day of your child’s absence.

If you reach voicemail, clearly leave the following details:

    • Your child’s full name

    • Classroom teacher’s name

    • Reason for the absence (e.g., illness, travel, emergency)

    • Your name and contact number

This helps us ensure all students are accounted for and keeps our records accurate.

When Should My Child Stay Home?

To help keep everyone healthy and safe, please keep your child home if they are showing any of the following symptoms:

    • Fever of 100°F or higher

    • Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours

    • Persistent cough or difficulty breathing

    • Unexplained rash

    • Red, watery eyes with discharge

    • Symptoms of contagious illness (e.g., strep throat, pink eye, flu, COVID-19)

Children should be symptom-free for at least 24 hours without medication before returning to school.

    Planned Absences

If your child will be out for a planned reason (vacation, appointments, family events), please notify your child’s teacher and the office in advance. This allows staff to plan accordingly and share any important classroom updates.

    Questions?

Please contact our office staff or your child’s teacher directly with any concerns. We appreciate your support in making Huron Little Tigers Preschool a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students.

  • At Huron Little Tigers Preschool, we believe in fostering a nurturing, respectful environment where every child can learn and grow. Our approach to discipline centers on teaching positive behaviors, building strong relationships, and creating a safe, predictable space for all students.

    Our Philosophy

Discipline is not about punishment—it’s about learning. We focus on helping children:

    • Understand their emotions

    • Learn appropriate ways to express themselves

    • Develop social skills like cooperation, empathy, and conflict resolution

    • Build independence and responsibility

We view challenging behavior as an opportunity for growth, not just for the child, but for everyone involved.

    How We Support Positive Behavior

Our staff uses developmentally appropriate strategies to guide and support students, including:

    • Clear, consistent expectations and routines

    • Visual schedules and cues to support understanding

    • Gentle redirection and prompts to encourage appropriate behavior

    • Logical consequences that are respectful and related to the behavior

    • Positive reinforcement and praise to encourage progress

When conflicts arise, we talk with students about what happened, how it made others feel, and how to make better choices moving forward.

    When Additional Support is Needed

If a child’s behavior disrupts the learning environment or poses a safety concern, we may take additional steps to support the child, which could include:

    • Collaborating with families to develop individualized strategies

    • Consulting with district support staff, including school psychologists or intervention specialists

    • Creating a behavior support plan tailored to the child’s needs

In rare cases, if safety becomes a significant concern and behavior escalates, temporary removal from the classroom setting may be considered while we work toward a supportive solution.

    Working Together

We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are key to student success. We’ll communicate openly with families about behavior concerns and work together to support each child’s growth.

If you have any questions about our approach to discipline or need additional resources, we welcome the opportunity to talk with you.

Together, we can help every Little Tiger feel safe, supported, and ready to thrive.

  • At Huron Little Tigers Preschool, we believe that strong communication between families and educators is essential to each child’s growth and success. We are committed to keeping parents informed, engaged, and involved throughout the school year.

    How We Communicate

We use a variety of tools and platforms to share important updates, classroom news, and your child’s progress:

    • ParentSquare – Our primary communication platform for school-wide announcements, classroom updates, event reminders, and quick messaging with teachers.

    • Monthly Classroom Newsletters – Teachers provide updates on classroom activities, upcoming events, learning themes, and ways to support your child’s learning at home.

    • Phone Calls & Emails – For individualized updates or time-sensitive communication.

    • Progress Reports & Conferences – Regular progress updates and scheduled parent-teacher conferences help you stay informed about your child’s development.

    Your Role in Communication

    We encourage families to:

    • Check ParentSquare regularly for new messages or updates.

    • Keep contact information up to date in the school’s system.

    • Reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns.

    • Attend scheduled conferences and school events when possible.

    Building Partnerships

Our goal is to create a partnership with you in supporting your child’s learning. Open, respectful communication ensures we are aligned in meeting their developmental and educational needs.

  • At Huron Little Tigers Preschool, we believe that when families are involved, students thrive. Your participation in school life not only strengthens our community but also creates meaningful connections that support your child’s academic and social development.

    Why Parent Involvement Matters

Research shows that children whose families are engaged in their education are more likely to:

    • Develop stronger language and social skills

    • Build confidence and positive attitudes toward school

    • Have better attendance and academic outcomes

That’s why we actively encourage parents and caregivers to play an important role in our school community.

    Ways to Get Involved

There are many flexible ways to participate—whether you have a few hours to spare or want to take on a more active role:

    • Attend Classroom Events & Celebrations – Join us for seasonal parties, family reading days, and special classroom activities.

    • Volunteer – Help with classroom projects, prepare materials at home, or assist during field trips (as needed).

    • Support Learning at Home – Read with your child daily, talk about what they learned, and follow up on classroom newsletters.

    • Join Our PTO or Parent Committees – Share your voice, support school-wide efforts, and help us enhance the preschool experience for all families.

    • Stay Connected – Follow updates in ParentSquare and maintain open communication with your child’s teacher.

    Together, We Make a Difference

By staying engaged and connected, you help us build a positive, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment. We’re grateful for your support and partnership, because great schools are built by great communities.

Mr Kucbel, Woodlands PrincipalWelcome to Woodlands Elementary! I’m proud to serve as the principal of a school filled with energy, curiosity, and a shared commitment to student success. At Woodlands, our mission is simple: to provide a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where every student can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

We believe in strong partnerships with families, and we know that when we work together – parents, teachers, and the community – great things can happen for our kids. Our dedicated staff works hard to meet each child where they are and challenge them to become their best selves, both in and out of the classroom.

Whether it’s hands-on learning in the classroom, participating in one of our school traditions, or finding joy in everyday moments, we want our students to feel seen, supported, and inspired.

Thank you for being part of our Woodlands community. Let’s continue to work together to make this school year meaningful and memorable for all of our students.
