Huron City Schools

November brings important changes to the Huron City Schools Board of Education as our community prepares to welcome new leadership while celebrating the contributions of departing members.

Four Board of Education seats appear on this year's ballot: three regular four-year terms and one two-year term filling a previously vacated position. This election ensures continued governance and strategic direction for our district.

Continuity in Leadership
Board members Stacy Hartley and Stacey Hinners, who joined the Board in January 2022, are seeking reelection. Their continued service, alongside Chris Rager, will provide essential stability as the district navigates evolving educational challenges and opportunities.

Honoring Departing Members
Jody Mast and Elizabeth Laffay have chosen not to seek reelection and will complete their terms in December. Their dedication and leadership have been instrumental in guiding Huron City Schools through significant challenges and achievements. We extend our deepest gratitude for their service to our students and community.

Welcoming New Perspectives
Two accomplished professionals will join the Board in January, bringing valuable expertise to our governance:

Jude Hammond, a retired school treasurer and auditor, offers extensive financial management experience that will strengthen the district's fiscal oversight and operational efficiency.

Jonathan Merckens, a retired Army pilot and current executive leader of Firelands Montessori Academy, brings proven school leadership and organizational management skills, along with innovative approaches to serving students and families.

As Superintendent, I look forward to collaborating with both returning and incoming board members as we advance programs and services benefiting all students. While Ohio public schools face ongoing challenges, strong, forward-thinking leadership positions Huron City Schools to build upon our tradition of educational excellence.
