Important Application Guidelines
Carefully read each scholarship description and make note of all special requirements. Please apply only for scholarships for which you meet the stated criteria. Scholarships marked with ** are probable but awaiting final confirmation from donors. Updates will be posted on Google Classroom.
American Legion Post 83 Scholarship
Amount VariesAwarded to two (2) students who best exemplify citizenship, leadership, service, and love of country.
Special Requirements:
- Applicants must be sons, daughters, grandsons, or granddaughters of veterans (living or deceased)
- Must note family member's name and branch of service
- Must reside in Erie County
- Demonstrate financial need and good moral character
- Top 25% of class required
- Participation in Social Studies extracurriculars (Model UN, American Legion Test, Voice of Democracy Test, SAT, History Day, Presidential Classroom, Hugh O'Brien Leadership, etc.)
- Community service activities required
Bruce Chaney Family Scholarship
Amount VariesAwarded to one (1) student of good character who has demonstrated their willingness to help the Huron community and work hard on their academics and extracurricular activities.
1 RecipientCivista Bank Scholarship
$500Awarded to one (1) student of character pursuing a postsecondary career in business, management, accounting, or a financial field.
1 Recipient**David and Jacquelyn Clark Family Scholarship
$3,000Awarded to two (2) graduating seniors planning to pursue a college degree and major in education or special education.
Essay Requirement: One-page essay on "What do you hope to accomplish within your field?"
Cornell's Foods Scholarship
$500Awarded to two (2) students pursuing any form of post-secondary education. Preference may be given to student employees of Cornell's Foods.
2 RecipientsDolores Heydinger Memorial Elementary Education Scholarship
$1,000Awarded to at least one (1) student pursuing Early Childhood Education with strong language arts skills.
Special Requirements:
- Minimum 3.0 GPA in core curriculum
- One recommendation from HHS teacher (not a coach or relative)
- One recommendation from community member
- Argumentative essay: "Why you chose to pursue a demanding career in elementary education and what qualities you have that are important for effective educators"
Huron High School Alumni Association Scholarship
$500Awarded to at least two (2) students with a 2.5 minimum cumulative GPA in core subjects who demonstrate strong involvement in the Huron community.
Essay Prompt: "It is approximately ten years from now. Tell us about how you expect to be using whatever postsecondary education you receive."
Huron AMVET Memorial Post 49 Scholarship
$500Awarded to two (2) students attending an accredited college or trade school.
Special Requirements:
- Must be sons, daughters, grandsons, or granddaughters of honorably discharged veterans
- Essay based on first-person interview with family member who served (or relatives with second-hand knowledge if deceased)
- Include relationship to military member and how interview impacted you
Huron Athletic Booster Scholarship
$500Awarded to student athletes with minimum 2 varsity letters and 50+ community service hours whose parents/guardians are current, active Huron Athletic Booster Club members.
Essay Prompt: "What Athletic Involvement has meant to me"
Include: List of varsity letters, sports earned, and dates received
Huron Band Parents Scholarship
Amount VariesAwarded to HHS Band members involved in band activities, extracurriculars, and community service/fundraising. Preference for 4-year members and those pursuing music education.
Essay Topics:
- Educational and career goals
- Plans to remain musically involved after graduation
- How Huron Band Program affected your life
- Leadership roles and impact
- Extra/non-mandatory activities in Band Program
Greater Sandusky Partnership Scholarship
$500Awarded to two (2) students with strong community service record and extracurricular activities. Priority for students considering entrepreneurship in Sandusky Bay area.
Bonus: Recipients may participate in Summer on the Bay internship program during college summers
Huron Browns Backers Scholarship
$1,000Awarded to two (2) members of the Huron High School Football Team.
Essay Prompt: "What did I learn from my involvement with the football program that will benefit me as I continue my education and future career?"
Huron Classified Education Association Scholarship
Amount VariesAwarded to one or more graduating seniors who are children of active HCEA members planning to pursue post-secondary education at a college, technical, or trade school.
1+ RecipientHuron Cross Country (Scott Klaiber) Scholarship
$250Awarded to two (2) members of the Huron High School Cross Country team for their senior season with at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
Essay Topic: How the Cross Country Program has affected/impacted you
HCEA Recognition Award
Amount VariesAwarded to students with at least a 2.5 GPA planning to pursue postsecondary education with demonstrated financial need.
Essay Prompt: "Explain yourself, your goals and achievements, as well as any obstacle you may have overcome and how you persevered."
Huron Education Association Scholarship
$500Awarded to graduating seniors who are dependents of active HEA members planning to pursue post-secondary education.
Essay Topic: An impactful educator in the student's life
Huron Historical Society Scholarship
$1,000Awarded to one student of good character who demonstrates appreciation for the Huron community and its history. Non-renewable scholarship.
Essay Topic: The importance of history in the Huron community and why it is important to you. Include references to landmarks, organizations, people, businesses, industries, schools, etc.
Huron Educational Foundation Scholarship
$1,000Awarded to at least two (2) graduating seniors planning to pursue postsecondary education with a record of community service and extracurricular activities.
2+ RecipientsHuron Lions Club Scholarship
$1,500Awarded to two (2) graduating Huron residents accepted into a two or four-year institution, professional/vocational school, or advanced training program with demonstrated school-community involvement.
Essay Topic: Lions Club International motto "We Serve" and how it relates to your personal experiences or future endeavors
Huron Police Association Scholarship
$500Awarded to one (1) graduating senior who is not an immediate family member of a current Huron Police Association member.
Essay Requirements:
- Demonstrate commitment to community service
- Document past accomplishments in community service to City of Huron and Erie County
- Detail how educational plans will contribute to improving communities
Huron PTO Excellence in Volunteering Award
$1,000Awarded to a graduating senior who has shown outstanding efforts in giving back to Huron City School District and/or City of Huron through volunteer work.
Essay Topic: The importance of community and why volunteering is important to you
**Huron Rotary Club Scholarship
$1,500Awarded to six (6) graduating seniors. One scholarship reserved for a student attending BGSU Firelands.
Requirements:
- Brief autobiography including academic strengths/challenges, school activities, community service, significant life events
- Essay: How you've practiced "Service Above Self" motto and how your career objectives support this
- One recommendation from HHS teacher
- One recommendation from employer, advisor, or coach
- If Interact member, describe involvement
Huron Subway Scholarship
$300Awarded to one (1) current or former student employee of Subway.
1 RecipientThe Jesse & Lynn Hagy Memorial Scholarship
$3,000Awarded to one (1) student with minimum 3.2 GPA planning to pursue education or healthcare profession. Must have been active in community service and participated in at least four extracurricular activities.
Essay Topic: Short statement detailing extracurricular activities and community service
The Judi Lively Memorial Scholarship
$1,000+Minimum $1,000 awarded to at least two students. Preference for financial need and wide variety of service experiences.
Essay Must Address ALL of the Following:
- Community service projects throughout high school
- Impact on individuals/groups/recipients you served
- How service experience supported positive attitude when encountering challenges
- How service impacted your growth as a leader and advocate
- Future community service plans and why
Kenneth B. Long Scholarship
$1,000Awarded to one (1) well-rounded student who was active at school, in the classroom, and in extracurricular activities with a GPA in good standing.
1 RecipientKiwanis Club of Sandusky
$1,000Awarded to one graduating senior seeking post-secondary education.
1 RecipientMarta J. Esposito Memorial Scholarship
$1,000Awarded to at least one (1) graduating senior with 2.5-3.5 GPA who demonstrated school-community involvement.
Essay Topic: Describe an obstacle you have overcome and how you persevered through it
McCormick Junior Honor Society Scholarship
$500Awarded to at least one (1) graduating senior who was a member in good standing of McCormick Jr. Honor Society by end of 8th grade.
Essay Prompt: "McCormick Junior Honor Society selects members based on scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Which attribute had the strongest correlation to success in high school? Which will have the strongest correlation to success as an adult?"
The Stephen E. Brown Memorial Scholarship
$500Awarded to two (2) graduating seniors attending college/university or technical school. Must have 3.0+ GPA, be active in community, and participated in extracurricular activities including one or more sports.
Essay Prompt: "How will being a member of a sports team and volunteering in the community make you a better, more productive person in the future?"
The Tanny Vonthron Memorial Scholarship
$2,000Awarded to at least one (1) student with at least 3.0 GPA.
Essay Topic: Detail how you have exemplified high moral/ethical standards, worked hard to achieve goals, displayed positive/giving/selfless attitude, helped others, overcome obstacles, shown leadership/conviction, and been kind/respectful/generous to others
The Tom Gosser Baseball/Softball Scholarship
$500Awarded to one male and one female student actively involved in Huron BB/SB Program through the summer after junior year.
Essay Topic: "What the Huron BB/SB Program has meant to me?"
Tom Shontz Science Memorial Scholarship
$1,000Awarded to two (2) students with minimum 2.5 GPA interested in pursuing postsecondary education in a science-related field.
Essay Requirements:
- One recommendation from high school teacher
- One recommendation from community member
- Essay: "What have you studied in science that especially interested you, and what inspired your interest in your intended college major and future career?"
Evelyn Bauer Scholarship
$1,000Awarded to two (2) Huron High School graduates or graduating seniors enrolling in a 2 or 4-year college, university, or technical school (undergraduate or graduate degree).
Essay Prompt: "Describe the most valuable positive impact you have made on your school and/or community and how you plan to continue to make a positive impact in your future."
Robert L. Tracht Memorial Scholarship
$2,000Awarded to one (1) Huron High School graduating senior or alumnus who will be attending Ohio State University next year. Must be of good character with minimum 3.0 GPA.
Essay Prompt: "Why are you the most deserving person for this scholarship?"
The Huron Academic Excellence Scholarship
$1,000Created to acknowledge students who took the most difficult academic path and excelled. Six (6) $1,000 scholarships were awarded last year.
Eligibility Requirements:
- 4 years EACH of Honors/AP/CCP English, Math, and Science
- 3 years of Honors/AP/CCP History or Social Sciences
- 3 years of same Foreign Language OR 2 years each of 2 different languages
- Minimum 3.7 UNWEIGHTED CUMULATIVE GPA
Vanessa Hart Campbell Scholarship
$7,000/year for 4 yearsAwarded to two (2) students in the amount of $7,000 per year for four consecutive years.
ALL Materials Required:
- No other family member has received this scholarship
- Must reside within Huron City School District boundaries
- Letter of Recommendation from Huron City Schools teacher
- Letter of Recommendation from community member (not HCSD employee/volunteer)
- FAFSA including SAI and AGI from last year's taxes
- Resume detailing community service and extracurricular activities
- ACT/SAT scores (printed from your account)
- Transcript
- Civic Activities (Non-School Related)
- Essay: State your thoughts on the education you received and how it relates to future goals. Include thought process on choosing postsecondary institution and course of study.
The Dick and June Klein Scholarship
$1,000Awarded to one (1) Huron High School graduating senior enrolling in a 2 or 4-year college, majoring in education or pursuing a teaching degree. Candidate must have cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above.
Note: Scholarship may be awarded to a student chosen by the guidance department who meets the criteria.
